Glamping in Cornwall: Unique Luxury Camping Experiences

Written by: Eliot Prince

I love nature. That’s why Cornwall is my favourite place in the world. There’s so much countryside and shoreline to explore.

And while it is great to be immersed in all of this, sometimes I find it’s nice to have a little luxury on trips to Cornwall.

That’s where glamping in Cornwall makes for a special experience. Whether it’s a weekend away, romantic celebration, or family adventure, I can’t recommend it enough!

Yearning to really immerse yourself – but maybe also sleep in a bed and not have to worry about pitching a tent?

Try glamping! This style of “glamorous camping” that’s booming in Cornwall – and other parts of the world – is a luxurious twist on the traditional method of spending a night outdoors.

And in the county, you’ll be spoilt for choice, below I’ll help you explore:

  • The top 10 glamping sites around Cornwall
  • Where these sites are located
  • Anything extra or unique you should keep an eye out for.

Read on to find out where to go glamping in Cornwall!

The Sea Forts Cornwall

The Sea Forts Cornwall overlooking the sea

At The Sea Forts, you’ll get to experience the stunning Cornish coast in style while enjoying a generous helping of history as well!

It is one of my favourite spots for glamping in Cornwall by the sea.

In this scenic glamping site situated at Maker Heights, you’ll be treated to some of the best-preserved Napoleonic barracks throughout Britain.

Built in 1775, the barracks were in military use until the 1920s when they became a safe camping haven for children sent to the Cornish countryside during the two World Wars.

It has since undergone significant historical restoration and preservation initiatives, and you can explore and learn much more about the place during your stay!

While you can opt to book a studio within the structure, I find the real magic at The Sea Forts can be found in their luxury glamping tents.

I love the view from the pavilions overlooking the sea from atop wild tussock-covered cliffsides and come complete with proper beds and bedding, furniture, and a range of other amenities.

No matter who you’re travelling with, you’ll be able to find a tent that suits your needs perfectly.

For instance, family-sized pavilions are available and provide a deck, picnic table, and fire pit. There’s even an option to add another junior tent for older kids who might want their own magical experience away from their parents!

If you’re with your partner, you might want to book the Mini Moon Tent – a romantic and cosy space with candelabras and floral arrangements that also offers prosecco on ice.

It’s also dog friendly glamping – Four legs are welcome in any of the tents, though you’re kindly requested to provide advance notice upon booking so that the arrangements can be made.

You can find The Sea Forts at Maker, Torpoint PL10 1LA, United Kingdom.

Acorn Camping and Glamping Hobbit Holes

A Hobbit hole at Acorn camping and glamping

Journey to Middle Earth and experience the woodland charm of The Shire when you book your very own Hobbit accommodation at Acorn Camping and Glamping

This charming space tucked away in the forests of Luxulyan Valley features three types of Hobbit-themed glamping sites.

The Hobbit Huts sleep up to four and are equipped with beds, cooking supplies, and covered outside areas.

Meanwhile, the Hobbit Holes located in a private glade across a rickety bridge features similar amenities and can accommodate up to three people.

For a more intimate Cornish getaway, couples can book the Hobbit Hideaway. A charming little hut that emphasises simple but comfortable living, the Hobbit Hideaway features log burners and cooking facilities and provides basic cutlery for your evening feast.

There’s even a wheelbarrow to easily and adorably transport your supplies from the car park!

All accommodation options feature the signature circular hobbit doors and other little-but-significant details that nod to the magical world of The Lord of the Rings.

Other lodgings are also available on site such as The Snook — a little cottage tucked away in a garden that comes with its own sauna.

Make sure to bring your own bedding and sleeping bags when booking at Acorn Camping! Unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed due to the risk they pose to the local wildlife.

You can find the site at Rock Cottage, Prideaux, St Blazey, Par, Cornwall, PL24 2SS, United Kingdom, near The Eden Project.

Close to Newquay, the Penhallow House Pod and Glamping Retreat is a homey spot located on picturesque farmland with charming local hosts.

For your accommodation options, choose between the house pod with its own deck, double bed, and desk area, or one of the several glamping pavilions that encircle the communal fire pit (which have a variety of bedding arrangements to suit your needs).

Breakfast is provided for all guests, and you can choose what style you’d prefer – selecting between buffet, continental, or a full-English breakfast!

Shared facilities include a modern bathroom, games and puzzles, cooking facilities, a gym, laundry, and more.

There’s loads to do at Penhallow and in the surrounding area such as horse riding, cycling, hiking, cooking classes, and a golf course.

Once you’re worn out for the day (or just looking for something a bit more laidback), a friendly village pub located about ten to fifteen minutes away beckons.

Be sure to visit and feed some of the farm animals around the local site to get a taste of small-town Cornish living! Because of the geese and chickens on the property, dogs aren’t allowed here.

You can find Penhallow House at St Newlyn East, Newquay TR8 5NH, UK.

Have a wander in the surrounding nature reserve, and see if you can spot deer, kingfishers, or even a cheeky otter!

The Airstream comfortably sleeps four and is located at Falbrook House Farm, Penryn TR10 9AL, United Kingdom.

Dogs are unfortunately not allowed due to the farm animals on the property and the constraints of the inside space.

Wheal Tor Hotel & Glamping

Wheal Tor Hotel and glamping at sunset

Glamp with an incredible view at the site of the highest inn in Cornwall!

Situated on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Wheal Tor Hotel is a historic inn that was originally erected to feed and provide water to copper miners. Today, it’s a favourite local spot for excellent food and delicious cold ales.

Here, you can choose between three fantastic glamping options!

There are wooden chalets available that comfortably sleep up to six people and feature beds, power, and tea stations while overlooking the moor.

If you’re looking for something else, you may like to opt for one of the eight charming Hobbit houses on the property! These are rustic wooden cabins with a unique, semicircle shape that come with furniture, crockery, and a barbecue area.

For a classic glamping experience, get in quickly and book the beautiful Bell Tent. The tent has a double bed, two double sofa beds, a tea station, heaters, lights, and more.

This accommodation also comes with snacks and wine for you to enjoy in your private seating area boasting views of the rolling countryside.

Rooms are also available in the hotel itself if you’re looking for a more traditional stay.

The nearby restaurant is definitely worth a visit! You can find an extensive seasonal menu offering everything from pizzas and traditional Cornish fare, to fine dining options like perfectly cooked steak and pasta.

Dogs are welcome anywhere at the Wheal Tor Hotel except the Bell Tent, and you can find this stunning location at Caradon Hill, Pensilva, Liskeard PL14 5PJ, United Kingdom.

Regardless of the occasion, this retreat will cater to your needs! For couples or solo travellers looking to get pampered, book one of the adults-only roundhouses and enjoy private campfires, fairy lights, and indoor candlelit baths that are tucked away from the main site.
